The opportunities for interesting photography are all around us. Sometimes overwhelmingly so.
In this series of photos I explored photographing one object (a park slide from multiple different angles).
I was drawn to the highlights of the metal edge of the slide and used that as a starting point, experimenting with deliberate underexposure, creating a darker look.
From there I focused on the position of those highlight edges and how I could use them to create compositions that were interesting but also distinct from one another.
From a critical point of view I would say I probably could have used a shallower depth of field in the first one in order to minimize the texture of the rocks and grass.
The last one also has some distracting elements along the top that are a bit annoying – and it would have been nice to have a bit of yellow paint present to better tie all three images together.
Technical info on the photos:
- Shot on the Fuji X-T2 with the 35mm f/2 (50mm equivalent)
- ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/250s (except for the 1st one which was 1/400s)
- Minimal editing in Lightroom: bump in contrast, reduced highlights a bit, and bumped shadows a bit
Overall, I found this series of photos really satisfying to shoot and I’ll be looking to experiment/explore more on this trip. Hope you enjoyed!
