The First Accessory I Buy For Every Camera

Screen protectors used to suck. Now they’re awesome! Check out this video to find out why it’s the first accessory I buy for every camera.

Using a screen protector is a great idea: it protects your camera’s screen from the small scratches that accumulate from general wear and tear. Even with a screen protector you’ll still get those little scratches, but you can always change the screen protector every few years.

Screen protectors also act as cheap insurance for more serious scuffs and big scratches. I have somehow managed to gouge/mar the screen of almost every camera I’ve owned, despite being pretty careful with my gear!

Another reason to use screen protectors is that they help with the resale value of your camera. Any second hand purchaser is going to like the fact the screen is in brand new condition. Using a screen protector also probably helps send the message that your gear is well maintained.

But for years we avoided using screen protectors on our cameras because, well, they were terrible. They made the colors on the screen look inaccurate, and they always got little air bubbles stuck underneath which made them look awful.

Fortunately screen protectors have gotten pretty good these days. The latest screen protector that I picked up is the best I’ve found so far!

It’s called the Vello LCD Screen Protector Ultra, and you can find it at B&H Photo. It’s only $24 bucks and well worth it.

It uses optical quality glass, and fits the camera so perfectly it’s difficult to tell its even there. It doesn’t affect image quality at all, the clarity is amazing. And there are no air bubbles!

You can find this screen protector for a variety of different camera models (almost every popular camera).

One other tip: If you’re picking up a new camera from a camera store, and they don’t have a good screen protector for your camera in stock, then try picking up a universal (cut to fit) screen protector. These universal screen protectors are not good quality, but they are usually pretty cheap and will protect your screen until you’re able to order a good screen protector online.
