Canon has announced that is moving away from the mainstream “.com” top level domain (TLD) names and will begin using its new “.canon” proprietary TLD. 

Canon says that visitors to .canon sites can now “easily confirm their authenticity.” Apparently, they couldn’t do so when visiting canon.com?

So far, Canon has launched the English-language version of global.canon domain under the new generic TLD. Canon says it will continue to roll out other domains in the future.

It’s great to see Canon jump on the bleeding edge of something for consumers. There really aren’t many companies pushing their gTLD branding yet. So, kudos to Canon for being an early adopter.
