What’s Going on at Photography Bay and Where is Eric?

Mark Twain Quote - Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated

I probably should’ve written this post a couple months ago. Many of you have noticed that the posting frequency has decreased over the past few months and have commented or sent me direct emails. I’ve also had a few concerns (thanks) about my well being.

I’m still alive and kicking. All is well.

The truth is that I simply have too many irons in the fire. Last year, I kicked off a new startup. It is completely unrelated to photography, which is why I haven’t mentioned it on Photography Bay. In the Fall of 2016, things really started picking up in terms of demands on my time. Accordingly, I am left with less time (for now) to focus on Photography Bay.

My hope is that this won’t be just the way things are going forward. As our company hires more people, I am hopeful that some of the leg work and minutiae that require my time and focus now can shift to others. However, for the time being, posting will be sporadic on Photography Bay.

Back in December, Photography Bay turned 10 years old, and I fully expect it to make it to 20+ years with me at the helm. I turned down several offers in 2016 from people who wanted to buy Photography Bay and I just don’t see that happening. Even if there are times of ebb and flow in the posting frequency, it boils down to the fact that I love doing this and I enjoy the community here.

I have several people who have asked about the weekly Reader Photos Roundup. I hear you guys! It will come back. I can’t make any promises about the frequency (e.g., whether we do weekly or monthly) but I will work another roundup in again soon. So keep posting your photos to the Flickr group.

For over a decade now, I have ran Photography Bay pretty much as a solo outfit. Even though I have tried to have other writers come on from time to time, the truth is that I like to do this by myself.

I’ll be catching up on some of the exciting new stuff. And yes, I have stayed plugged into the industry even if I haven’t published something on every new camera and drone released lately. Right now, I’m working on a review of the Canon 80D, which I’m pretty excited about.

And, with that in mind, what do you want to see on Photography Bay in 2017? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see about adding it to the punch list.

Thanks to everyone who has sent an email or left a comment about what’s going on. I appreciate your concern and loyalty to Photography Bay. I’m looking forward to talking about photography for another decade with you guys!
