After seeing the next generation of imagePROGRAF printers back at the Canon Expo last year, we now have official details from Canon in its announcement of four new imagePROGRAF PRO large format printers this week.
Adding to the smaller 17-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-100 that was announced last October, the new models include the 24-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 and the imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 for fine art and photography markets (note the red line that matches Canon’s L lenses and the imagePROGRAF PRO-100), while the 44-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-4000S and 60-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-6000s are tailored to the production signage industry.
The PRO-2000 and PRO-4000 feature Canon’s LUCIA PRO 11-color plus Chroma Optimizer ink system, which is designed for increased color gamut, reduced bronzing, improved scratch resistance, greater image clarity, gloss uniformity and excellent shadow reproduction, as well as increased black optical density. The PRO-4000S and PRO-6000S are eight-color models and utilize the same new 12-channel print head but the key colors of C, M, Y and MBk are arranged symmetrically in a mirrored arrangement, helping to realize high-speed printing, as well as high-color density.
They also have a wider print head than their predecessors at 1.28-inch. The new head design also allows for a more compact printer design because there is only one head in the printer. The new media feeding enhancements should make loading paper easier and limit blemished prints from fingerprints.
The PRO-2000 and PRO-4000 also have an optional Multifunction Roll System available, which allows you to load glossy paper in one roll and matte paper in the other without the need to switch paper or black inks each time you print to a different media type.
The new printers feature a redesigned 3.5-inch color LCD touchscreen, direct USB drive printing capabilities and mobile connectivity. WiFi is also available in all models. Print Studio Pro is included as a plugin for Photoshop, Lightroom and Digital Photo Professional software.
These four new printers will be available in late spring 2016. The PRO-2000 retails for $2995, or $3795 with the Multifunctional Roll System. The PRO-4000 retails for $5995, or $6995 with the Multifunctional Roll System.
The PRO-6000S and PRO-4000S retail for $9995 and $4995, respectively. The Multifunction Roll System is a $1000 add-on for the PRO-4000S as well.
