DJI Osmo Review

The DJI OSMO (Price: £548 / $610) is a small modular camera system that enables you to capture fluid stabilized footage. It consists of the compact X3 camera, motorised gimbal and control handle, all in one.

DJI Osmo review: capture fluid video with this all-in-one camera and gimbal.

The small size, weight and cost make it an ideal addition for any professional needing to shoot video.

Direct controls for the camera and gimbal are placed within easy thumb reach on the ergonomically designed handle and further controls and settings can be accessed by pairing with an iOS or Android mobile device.

The X3 camera has a proven track record and is used on the DJI Inspire multi-rotor. It shoots exceptional quality footage enabling impressive 4K video capture at 25fps and plenty of other resolution, including Full HD at 120fps, and these other resolutions  can all be selected from within the mobile app.

The lens provides a 94 degree field of view (20mm equivalent) with well controlled distortion. A small modification compared with the Inspires X3 model means that the focus range is designed for use on the ground rather than from the sky.

The minimum focus distance is reduced to 1.5m for the OSMO model making it possible to get closer to the action.

Video quality is excellent with well controlled colour and saturation, switching the shooting mode to manual gives you plenty of control over the exposure to ensure you get the shots you want.

The OSMO is unique as it is the only integrated camera system of this size and cost. Camera, gimbal and handle work seamlessly together to enable a one-person production team who can shoot professional-quality stabilized footage that just wouldn’t have been possible before without a much larger budget.

Score: 5/5
