Weighing in at 1270g, the new Olympus 300mm f/1.4 lens is a quarter of the weight of most DSLR lenses with equivalent focal lengths, and the Olympus lens measures just 227mm in length.

Aimed at professional photographers who shoot wildlife, sport or the performing arts, the Olympus 300mm f/1.4 also boasts the shortest focusing distance for tele macro photography at just 1.4m from subject to camera, Olympus says, with a max 0.48x zoom.

Along with its 600mm focal length (35mm equivalent), the new Olympus lens offers an angle of view of 4.1° and a six-step image stabilisation system.

What’s more, when used with Olympus cameras like the OM-D E-M1 or E-M5 Mark II the new lens can achieve autofocus speeds of less than 300ms, Olympus says.

Other features include barrel-mounted one-finger photo clutch for AF/pre-set focus switching, an IS On/Off switch for tripod use, an L-Fn switch for 27 assignable
functions and a 17 Elements in 10 groups configuration.

The Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 300mm 1:4.0 IS PRO price tag will be £2199.99 RRP inc VAT when it is released in spring 2016.
