Atlanta Photo Walk–January 11th

Photofocus kicks off our 2016 Photo Walk series by starting in my hometown, Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, January 11. We’ll meet at 4:30 at the SW corner of the Southern Company Amphitheater in Centennial Olympic Park. It’s right across Marietta Street from the entrance to CNN Center. The Photo Walk will wrap at 7:30.

I’ll be joined by fellow Photofocus author Levi Sim. We’ll be helping those who want to make exciting photographs in this beautiful, downtown setting. As with all Photofocus Photo Walks, it’s free. Levi & I will be using Baja portable electronic flashes from Dynalite that we’ll share with participants. The Atlanta Chapter of ASMP will help host this event.

Centennial Olympic Park

Old run down warehouses were razed to make room for the park that features the Fountain of Rings, the Hermes towers, the Water Gardens and our meeting place, the Southern Company Amphitheater. Here’s a map of the park and a link to a downloadable version.

What to Bring

Bring your camera, (of course!) a tripod as we’ll move quickly from late afternoon, to sunset, dusk and dark. Speed-lights are also good.  Centennial Olympic Park has lighted fountains so there will be lots of interesting things to shoot. Lenses are good as well as comfortable shoes. Make sure your kit is comfortably sized so it’s easy to carry for the three hours.

Models

ASMP Atlanta is providing a professional model to make the Photo Walk even more interesting. Dynalite is providing some of their portable BAJA electronic flashes with modifiers. We’ll all share. Levi Sim, ASMP Atlanta Chapter president Theresa Sicurezza and I will be there to help with the lights, model and to help participants where we can.

Rules

Our permit requires that participants follow these guidlines:

  1. Participants must park off-site. Parking INFO
  2. We may not block walkways. Be aware of where you put your tripod!
  3. The model will not be able to change outfits during the walk so, please, don’t ask.
  4. Do not put any stakes in the grass. Change the pointed feet on tripods for rubber ones.
  5. We are not allowed in any of the water features.

Getting Here

If you are attending Imaging USA (one of the premier photography conferences in the world) your hotel is walking distance to the Photo Walk. We welcome any Imaging participants who wish to loosen up their shooting eye and join us for a fun evening.

Driving…

Driving in Atlanta can be a challenge as the city seems at times to be the poster child for congested traffic. That said, if you are coming by in a car, here are driving directions. Click the “from” menu then choose the interstate you are going to use. Then pick the parking lot you want.

Transit

Atlanta’s rapid rail system MARTA has a stop really close to Centennial Olympic Park.  You want the “Dome/GWCC/Phillips Arena/CNN Center station on the blue-green line. Here’s a link to learn more…

It’s Fun!

This is going to be a fun evening for anyone interested in photography and making better pictures with the help of working pros. The smiles from previous Photo Walks tell the tale as only photographs can! Plan to join us Monday afternoon / evening, January 11, 2016 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.
