360fly, a new 360-degree action camera, could be a game-changer

360fly, a new 360-degree action camera, could be a game-changer

360fly – price tag £429 – is a potentially game-changing 360-degree action cam that claims it can record everything in a scene, all at once.

Up until now the only way to shoot all 360 degrees of a scene at the same time was with a ring-like setup of several cameras tethered to a computer via software.

The 360fly now promises to change all that, billing itself as the first action cam that records everything exactly as it happens with panoramic 360-degree recordings from one, lone camera.

The 360fly offers views of 360 degrees horizontally and 240 degrees vertically, as well as a three-axis-sensor including acceleration sensor and orientation-identification, and a CMOS image sensor that enables recordings at resolutions up to 1,504 x 1,504 pixels.

Inside, an image stabilizer helps reduce vibrations, while on the outside a fast f/2.8 lens helps the camera achieve sharper images in low light.

All videos are stored directly on its 32GB internal memory (roughly two hours of recording capacity), and the battery also provides approximately two hours of power.

A free 360fly app also turns your smartphone or tablet not only into a viewfinder but works as a remote control and offers options for video editing.

Other features include an integrated microphone for sound recording, Wi-Fi capability, waterproof up to 35 meters and a QuickTwist functionality that allows users to attach the 360fly “almost anywhere.”, with further adaptors in the pipeline, the company says.

The 360fly price tag will be £429, with a release date in January.
