Photo of the Day: Fragile Brilliance

Why I picked this image: This street photo reminds me of the work of old masters and is a great example that sharpness and megapixel can be neglected in documentary and street photography. Some of our most iconic images from the 20th century were captured with very limited technical gear – manual focus, fixed lens, grainy and low ISO film. Yet, they are iconic.

This image creates a myth and story not by what it shows, but rather by what it leaves out. It is grainy, blurred and very contrasty. Yet it draws me in and wants me to think about making up the missing parts. This is an image that I would like to have hanging on my wall. And it is a perfect example where street photography and art meet.
