Promising outstanding brightness and bokeh, Sigma says the lens is designed for shooting landscapes and astrophotography, as well as portraits and indoor photography in low light.

The new Sigma lens incorporates a large double aspherical lens 59mm in diameter, which the company says had previously proved difficult to manufacture.

But advancements in manufacturing that led to other lenses in Sigma’s Art range, uch as SIGMA 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG ASPHERICAL HSM, SIGMA 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM, and SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, helped the company with the breakthrough.

The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 will be released next month in Sigma, Nikon and Canon mounts, and features include five special low-dispersion glass elements to help reduce chromatic aberrations, as well as adjustments to the incidence angle of light with the first lens element (and optimally positioned aspherical glass elements) to minimise distortion throughout the full image.

Other features include a nine-blade rounded diaphragm, 15-elements-in-11-groups and a Hyper Sonic Motor, as well as Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating to help reduce flare and ghosting.

The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 offers a minimum shooting distance of 27.6cm.
