Following a steady stream of killer camera releases, Sony dropped another bomb on us today with the 42.4MP RX1R II full frame camera. It features a Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 fixed lens and a sensitivity range of ISO 100-25,600 (expandable to ISO 50-102,400).
The RX1R II sports a 399-point phase-detect AF system and features a retractable 2.36M-dot resolution OLED viewfinder with 0.74x magnification, as well as a 3-inch tilting rear LCD.

Notably, the camera also features a completely new variable optical low-pass filter that allows you to prioritize pure image resolution or moiré and aliasing reduction. The variable OLPF can also be bracketed for multiple exposures so that you can decide in post production which you prefer.
The Sony RX1R II ships with the ability to capture uncompressed 14-bit RAW images (a feature that is coming next week to its cousin, the Sony A7R II). Stock up on memory cards and storage though because those 14-bit RAW files are going to chew through some data.
Stepping away from 4K video for this model, however, the RX1R II is limited to 1080/60p video, which it captures using Sony’s XAVC-S codec. It will also capture 1080p video at 24p and 30p frame rates. The RX1R II also includes WiFi and NFC connectivity for using with Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile app.
