A recently published Canon patent application reveals a couple new lenses for the APS-C format cameras.

First, is the Canon EF-S 15-55mm f/2.8-4 lens, which could be an advanced kit lens option with a faster aperture from wide to tele. Their are four slightly different embodiments of this specific lens and zoom range, along with one embodiment that covers a 15-45mm f/2.8-4 lens.

The other lens covered by the patent is an EF-S 18-300mm f/3-6.3 (it could be an f/3.5-6.3 too). It measures 168mm long when zoom wide and 248mm at the max telephoto zoom. Of course, I would expect image stabilization in such a lens as well.

Both lenses would probably include the STM focusing motor as well for optimal use with video features on Rebel and other Canon APS-C cameras.

Both lenses would also be completely new to the EF-S lens line up. The biggest super-telephoto EF-S lens Canon currently has is the EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, which is outclassed in zoom range by several third-party lenses. An 18-300mm option from Canon would go head-to-head with Sigma’s 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM lens.
