15 Points Of Comparison Between The Sony A7r II & The Fuji X-T1

NOTE: Cross-Posted at WeShootFuji.com

I used a Sony A7r II for a half hour this week. It’s one of the most hyped cameras of the century.

I admit my bias is against Sony stuff (so feel free to ignore this opinion if you like) but I did try to be as open minded as I could be when I got my hands on this camera.

I didn’t do an in-depth test because let’s face it, I’ll never be a Sony shooter. But I did want to see how it compared to a Fuji X-T1. Quick verdict?

1. X-T1 has a better electronic viewfinder (Sony smears when you pan.)
2. X-T1 has (marginally) better dials.
3. X-T1 has (marginally) better tracking autofocus (using the latest X-T1 firmware.)
4. X-T1 has slightly better battery life.
5. Sony A7r II has more resolution (I don’t see that as a positive but I realize that many people do.)
6. X-T1 is less expensive.
7. Fuji has a stronger lens lineup than Sony.
8. Sony A7r II can use (and AF) Canon lenses.
9. Sony A7r II has a better hand grip.
10. X-T1 has better weather sealing.
11. Sony A7r II has IBIS (I see this as a bug not a feature but realize I am in the minority on this one.)
12. X-T1 has a better buffer.
13. Sony A7r II has slightly better high ISO performance (pretty amazing given how many megapixels they pack on the sensor.)
14. Sony A7r II shoots much better video than the X-T1.
15. Sony A7r II has no built-in intervalometer (you must download an app and install it).

In my opinion, the Sony A7r II is over-hyped and there’s no reason for Fuji users to feel left out in the cold. I know we have lots of Sony fans here and just because I prefer a different camera, it doesn’t mean there’s any reason for Sony shooters to be concerned. Just an FYI.
