Canon has officially announced the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens. It is the first lens with Canon’s newly-developed Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics (BR Optics), which uses organic material to “achieve a higher level of chromatic aberration correction than other existing technologies.”
The lens is comprised of 14 elements in 11 groups and features Canon’s Sub-Wavelength Structure Coating (SWC) to help reduce flare and ghosting. It also features a .28m (or 11″) minimum focusing distance. It features a rounded nine blade diaphragm with an aperture range of f/1.4-22
“Autofocusing is swift and virtually silent due to a rear-focus optical system and Canon’s original Ring USM focusing motor. Full-time mechanical manual focusing is also available even when the lens is set to AF mode.”
The new lens is weather sealed for dust and water resistant. A fluorine coating on the front and rear lens surfaces helps repel water and dust and makes it easier to clean.
The Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens uses 72mm filters and ships with the Canon EW-77B lens hood and LP1219 lens pouch. It retails for $1799 and should be available in October 2015. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
