The rubber on my Canon zoom ring became loose. Watch how easy it is to replace the zoom ring with a part I ordered from eBay.
If the rubber on any of your zoom or focus rings becomes loose try searching eBay for the replacement part.
Here’s the replacement zoom ring I used for my 24-70 f/2.8. It cost US$14 with $7 shipping.
This is the first time I’ve ever had the rubber come loose on a lens. This was also a newer lens that hadn’t been used nearly as much as our older lenses. I suspect this is a rare problem and likely a defect with the original ring. At least it an easy fix that you can do yourself.
Canon should really be offering free replacements for defective rubber zoom and focus rings.
